The 0.84-1.35-micron spectrum of the eastern lobe of the protoplanetary nebula AFGL 618 was measured through a 6-arcsec aperture using a germanium photodiode array. The present data show a weak continuum with strong forbidden and permitted emission lines. An extensive line list from these spectra, including many identifications in the poorly explored 1.0-1.35-micron region, is presented. The atomic line ratios indicate that there is both high- and low-temperature gas in the lobes. The apparently shock-excited hotter gas has Te of 25,000 and ne of 8000/cu cm; the cooler gas has Te of 10,000 K and ne of 1600/cu cm. Line strengths are employed to determine the filling factors of these two components, and it is found that the cool component fills most of the visible lobes. The present results are compared with previous work.
