We have studied the interaction of planetesimals with the envelope of growing gaseous planets to determine the capability of solid bodies to penetrate to the core, the place where they release their energy and mass and finally the enhancement of the protoplanet's capture radius due to a massive atmosphere. We have developed a numerical model including gravity, gas drag, thermal ablation and mechanical destruction that allows to compute trajectories of planetesimals of different sizes and compositions.
