The interplanetary resonance radiation of neutral hydrogen and helium at 121.6 nm and 58.4 nm was observed to analyze the temperature and the density of the interstellar medium in the vicinity of the Sun. The interstellar wind theory and solar line emissions are presented. The thermal effects on H density and He density are analyzed. The profile of the 58.4 nm line is calculated to determine the radiation distribution. The complete frequency redistribution is a good approximation of the resonance scattering process. The total intensity of the 58.4 nm line is calculated by a fourfold integration of a function including velocity distribution, frequency redistribution, and line shape. Results show differences 10% between calculations and the approximate method. The method is sufficient to evaluate the 58.4 nm background measurements.
