We report the detection of an X-ray flare from the low mass X-ray binary 4U 0614+09 by the WATCH all-sky X-ray monitor on January 17th, 1990. The flare reached a peak flux of 10 Crab units in the 6-20 keV energy band, and had the time structure of a Type-I X-ray burst. A similar flare attributed to this source was reported by OSO-8 in 1975. The burst is used to estimate the maximum distance to 4U 0614+09.
