The separation of plasmoids from the plasmasphere was observed in the Kp = 6 storm of May 22-23, 1968. The motion of two plasmoids was accompanied by the generation of currents along the boundary of the polar region, occupying the afternoon sector of the boundary. An analysis of magnetograms reveals that the occurrence of such events is quite frequent (of the order of several per month).
