We propose to use the MOPRA telescope to map Tapia's Globules 1 and 2 in the Southern Coalsack in lines of N2H+, HC3N, SO, C18O, H13CO+ and CH3OH. The time-scales for grain mantle formation, derived from previous observations of water ice absorption in the Coalsack (Smith et al. 2002), yield a difference of almost half a million years for the relative ages of these two globules. These observations will allow us to see if there are significant chemical differences between the two globules, as predicted by chemical models. We will also measure and compare the spatial chemical differentiation evident in each of Globule 1 and Globule 2, and relate the observed structure, or lack of it, to their evolutionary state.
