Hopefully, most of the students that participated in the Pecs PhD Conference will continue to do research for many years. Both the scientific environment of the community in which they will develop their work, and the way science is carried out in current days, are likely to influence their feeling about research. In this paper I summarize an evening discussion that took place during this conference in which these two non-scientific issues were debated.
