A general relation is obtained determining the lower limit of the dispersion of an estimate of an unknown parameter of an arbitrary object. The results of measurement of the power spectrum of speckle images as a function of the circumstances of the observation and the characteristics of the observed object are used as a basis. This relation is used to investigate the possibilities of using the method of speckle interferometry to solve the problem of measuring the angular diameters of stars. The limiting stellar magnitude for the given circumstances of observation are determined in connection with the solution of a specific measurement problem.
