Results are reported of a spectroscopic survey of stars in five globular clusters, to test the hypothesis that variations in CN and/or NH are positively correlated with those in sodium. To date, this appears to be the case for the more metal-rich systems 47 Tuc and M71 and for omega Cen and NGC 6752. Clusters investigated include M3, M4, M5, M13 and M92 (the last being chosen as one of the most metal-poor systems). Model atmosphere techniques are used to determine intracluster sodium abundance differences on the assumption that the observed line strength differences may be interpreted within the framework of local thermodynamic equilibrium. Eight of nine pairs of stars (chosen to have similar effective temperatures and gravities but different nitrogen abundances) showed a positive correlation between Na and N; the anomalous ninth pair should be reobserved. All of the material in the literature on this topic is summarized, and the implications of the results are discussed.
