The evolutionary synthesis of integrated colours for the very red spiral
galaxies in Schommer and Bothun's (1983) sample has been used to
determine their star formation rate which has been proven to be normal
for their gas content. However, there is strong evidence that these
galaxies are more metal-rich than the majority of spirals.
