In recent years, evidence has emerged that the Cepheid period-lminosity (PL) relation in the LMC may be non-linear with two distinct slopes for short (P < 10 days) and long (P > 10 days) respectively. In contrast the Galactic PL relation has been found to be linear. Since the LMC and the Galaxy have different metallicity, the non-linearity of the Cepheid PL relation may be caused by metallicity.
We present the preliminary results of an ongoing study to investigate metallicity effects on possible non-linearities in the Cepheid PL relation. We use the Cepheids in IC 1613, M31, M33, NGC6822, NGC300 and NGC3109, from ground based observations, that have a wide spread in metallicity.
