Telescope Mounts: Vibrations

Scientific paper

A periodic vibration in the angular velocity of the rotating axes of a telescope is reported. The authors studied whether the periodic vibration is caused by the friction in the bearings or by the displacement between the rotating center and the gravity center. It is found that the friction in the bearings is unimportant in this case. There is some possibility that the source of the vibration is the unbalance of the rotor.
