We propose deep U-band imaging of the Subaru Deep Field (SDF) with the MOSAIC imager on the KPNO/4m. The SDF is one of the deepest, largest multi-wavelength galaxy surveys in the sky. SDF is uniquely different from existing surveys with over 5000 emission line galaxies identified with NB filters and 1000 variable sources from multi-epoch observations. The new U-band image combined with other observations will determine the photometric redshifts of 100,000 galaxies. This will (1) allow us to determine the content of dust and young and old stars in galaxies, (2) determine the dark-halo mass of galaxies from clustering strengths and how it is affected by the star-formation rate and stellar mass, (3) identify large samples of Lyman break galaxies at z of 1.7 and up, based on NUV-dropout objects we have found with GALEX, and (4) identify Seyfert galaxies from their UV excess.
