The effective temperature of the cool carbon star Y Tau is estimated using occultation and Fourier transform spectrometer data. The occultation and spectroscopic observations are described. An effective temperature of 2810 K + or - 70 K is obtained from the occultation data and a temperature of 2900 + or - 250 K is estimated from the spectroscopic observations. Consideration is given to the radial velocity of the Y Tau, and it is calculated as + 25 km/s at the time of the observations.
