Ole Romer (1644-1710) was the first to prove that light propagates at
finite speed. He constructed planetariums, a micrometer, a grid
telescope, a double view telescope, and thermometers. With his transit
circle he measured very exact stellar positions. He was also prefect of
police in Copenhagen.
