The authors discuss the thermocentrifugal wind theory of Mestel (1968) and Mestel and Spruit (1986). The theory is consistent with the vrot ∝ t-1/2 law, if the coronal temperature increases with rotation velocity as recent observations suggest. The authors present a generalized form for the braking law using the empirical relation Ro = 0.94 t91/2 for the Rossby number, where t9 is the age in units of 109yr, and discuss the observed deviations from this relation. Theoretical models (involving angular-momentum loss) of contact binaries and cataclysmic variables are also compared with this prediction.
