A catalog of 643 H II regions in the spiral galaxy NGC 6946 has been compiled from the analysis of an H-alpha plate taken with a focal reducer at the prime focus of the Soviet 6-m telescope. The distribution of their diameters is well represented by an exponential function with a characteristic diameter D0 = 29 pc (assuming a distance of 5.1 Mpc for the galaxy). The study of their brightness shows a luminosity function quite comparable to that found for other Sc galaxies, such as NGC 628 (Kennicutt and Hodge, 1980), NGC 5236 (Rumstay and Kaufman, 1983), or M33 (Viallefond et al., 1985).
