Photometric observations of P/Halley obtained before its passage at perihelion are presented. The filters used are: C2, BC, C3, CN, UC, which are among those chosen by the International Halley Watch. Gas production rates have been evaluated. The authors find they vary as r-n (being r the Comet-Sun distance) with n = 3.44 (C2), 2.51 (C3), and 2.65 (CN). The production rate of solids, that are supposed to scatter the continuum radiation, does not show any variation with r. It seems difficult to reconcile the results as a whole with an H2O ice dominated sublimation. They seem however to be not incompatible with a nucleus of polymer-like composition.
