An extrapolation method which follows the slowly varying evolution of individual phases of the wave is described and its accuracy is evaluated. The use of the extrapolation method for a transmitting boundary condition is examined. It is noted that linear extrapolation along the C(+) characteristics is useful for predicting the physical variables of the wave to an accuracy of a few percent.
