Forty-one observations of the radial velocity of the double-lined binary HD 159176, spectral type O7 + O7, are given. The orbit has been computed and agrees in general with previous determinations, though a small increase in velocity amplitudes leads to significantly greater mass estimates (approximately 38 solar masses) for the two components. The systematic velocity is variable and always positive relative to that of the young open cluster NGC 6383 to which HD 159176 belongs. It is possible that this is a triple system. Attention is drawn to the possibility that the positive velocity residual, as well as a similar effect in several O-type binaries discussed by Conti, Leep, and Lorre, may result from gas streaming in the system or some other effect, such as distortion of the stars, which is peculiar to binary stars. The first suggestion of an explanation of this type for the Trumpler effect in O stars was made by Struve.
