The results of Shcherbakov's (1978) solution of the volume distribution of the density of the moon are applied to the study of certain features of the internal structure of the moon. The behavior of the normalized zonal and sectoral harmonics of the density is studied, and it is shown how the earth played a central role in the shifting of the center of mass of the moon and in the development of the thicknesses of the crust of the visible and opposite hemispheres. A map of the variations of the surface density was constructed, and significant correlation exists between the density and gravity anomalies. A characteristic feature of the map of density variations is the presence of zones of density anomalies of the same sign. Most of these zones in the central part of the visible hemisphere are elongated in the southeast direction. Their presence suggests the existence, along their lines of contact, of deep fractures of the lunar crust which occurred during mare formation.
