The morphology of the interstellar medium is briefly examined, and the basic chemical processes leading to the molecular formation are discussed along with the astrophysical scenario. The procedures currently used in modeling the interstellar-cloud chemistry are described, and a simple pseudo-time-dependent model is developed as an illustration. Possible future developments are mentioned.
