In the paper the authors shall discuss another mechanism of dilaton production. Oscillating loops of cosmic string, which could be formed at a symmetry-breaking phase transition in the early universe, will copiously emit dilatons, as long as the characteristic frequency of oscillation is greater than the dilaton mass. Cosmic strings are predicted in a wide class of elementary particle models. The authors shall calculate the dilaton density produced by the strings and explore the constraints it imposes on the dilaton and string parameters.
