The Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) is a telescope which will offer the astronomical community unprecedented capabilities. This paper describes some aspects in the design for the data model to be used with this telescope during the observing process and offline in the ALMA Science Archive. This model, which inherits from the MS data model, must integrate seamless single-dish and interferometric data, a highly flexible correlator, and new telescope operations. The data model must remain versatile and extensible.
