The characteristic properties of centimeter-band flux and linear polarization variability are described, with emphasis on results from the Michigan monitoring program. Outbursts typically occur every two years, matching the development of knots seen in VLBI imaging. These plausibly arise from naturally developing instabilities within the relativistic jet flows; both Kelvin-Helmholtz models leading to internal shocks and current-driven instabilities have been proposed as the physical origin. Events in the well-sampled radio data are temporally associated with high energy outbursts (X-ray to TeV γ-ray) in some, but not all objects, providing information on the site and particle origin of the high energy emission. Some attempts to relate radio jet flux and variability properties to the SMBH and associated accretion disk are summarized.
