We have searched for broad-band linear polarization in non-magnetic cataclysmic variables by (1) observing eclipses of the nova-like UX UMa, (2) observing the dwarf nova SS Cyg in both quiescence and outburst, and (3) obtaining phase-resolved polarimetry for the old nova V603 Aql. In no case do we observe a change in polarization, our tightest limits being at the ~0.01 per cent level. The limits are close to the changes predicted by theory, showing that the polarization in these objects is not significantly greater than theory suggests.
