We propose to analyze images of COMPACT GALAXIES in the GOODS- North field to obtain structural parameters {size, ellipticity} and photometric parameters {colors, color gradients}. These data will be combined with spectra from a new Keck Observatory survey which will provide redshifts, line-widths, star-formation rates and metallicities. This combined data set will be an order-of-magnitude larger than previous studies of compact galaxies, and the improved sample size will enable us to study these galaxies as a function of environment. Given the large redshift range and additional new parameters {such as metallicity}, we will be able to track this rapidly-evolving and enigmatic galaxy class over a significant fraction of the age of the universe {z 0 to z 1.4}.
