The forbidden O I, 6300-A velocity field of the Helix Nebula NGC 7293 has been obtained. The geometry best suited to accommodate both the velocity data and the appearance of the nebula in the sky is that of a radially expanding helix. The helix, however, is not of a simple type, where the axial coordinate, z, is a linear function of the azimuthal angle, theta, rather it is better approximated by an extended helix where z is proportional to the square of theta. The expansion velocity in the equatorial zone is about 22 km/sec.
