The atmospheric parameters of Arcturus are derived using a technique based on the differential curve of growth and model-atmosphere analysis of the profiles of strong lines; the G8 giant Epsilon Virginis is employed as a comparison star. A previously computed grid of model atmospheres is adopted, line blanketing effects are fully taken into account, and the effective temperature and surface gravity are determined from photometric color indices, equivalent widths of neutral and ionic lines, and wing profiles of strong lines. The most probable values obtained for Arcturus are an effective temperature of 4300 (+ or - 90) K and log g of 1.74 + or - 0.2. Metal abundances are derived from curves of growth, a microturbulent velocity of 1.7 km/s is determined, and a mass of approximately 1 solar mass is estimated along with a radius of 22.4 solar radii. Effects of errors in temperature, gravity, and parallax on the estimated mass and radius are discussed. The results are compared with those of a previous analysis that yielded log g of 0.9.
