A detailed account is presented here of the steps involved in processing TeV images of light collected from showers using the Atmospheric Cerenkov technique. Noise treatment, image parameterization and analysis strategies are discussed with emphasis on the power of the imaging technique and it's accomplishments to date. The scientific justification for the development of third generation Čerenkov imaging systems is reviewed and scientific and technical objectives are assessed.
