We present a physically motivated proof of the cosmic censorship conjecture for the case of the gravitational collapse of Tolman-Bondi pressureless dust, considered as an approximation to physically realistic situations with pressure. The validity of censorship also follows from an analyticity restriction on the allowed density profiles. The arguments presented are expected to be of value in formulating a more rigorous and formal proof for dust collapse and also a more general proof encompassing the collapse of matter with other equations of state.
