This paper examines the timing of resurfacing processes in the Amenthes and Mare Tyrrhena regions of Martian highlands, represented by the population distribution curves of flat-floored rimless craters. The origin of this unique population is investigated, and the areal extent and the thickness of materials responsible for modifying the highland surface of this part of Mars are estimated. Results indicate that resurfacing in the Amenthes and Tyrrhena regions terminated at N(5) = 200-250 (late Noachian to early Hesperian). Crater counts show an increase in the number of craters between the 8- and 50-km-diam with higher northerly latitudes, suggesting that the resurfacing was not a single event.
