The masses of compact objects in active galactic nuclei (AGN) and quasars derived by different authors are compared. The duration of an activity stage is determined and the slope approximately equal to 4 of the mass function is derived. There is a high dispersion of parameters in each sample, however the samples show the similar dependence of the redshift. The duration of the activity stage of the numerous low massive AGN is possibly about cosmological, whereas the one of the high massive AGN is one or two orders in magnitude less.
