Cosmology: Dark Matter
Scientific paper
There exist two different dark-matter problems in cosmology: a) the discrepancy between the dynamical and luminous mass of astronomical systems and b) the discrepancy between the observed mean mass density of the universe and the critical one predicted by inflation. It is shown that a "fifth force" ((Newtonian + Yukawa)-type potential) coming from fourth-order gravity can explain the discrepancy b) but not a). Finally, a higher-order gravity theory (many Yukawa terms in the potential) is discussed.
