Mass transport in the transition zone above a sunspot has been studied in the CIV line at 1548 A, formed at 100,000 K. Flow velocities are derived from multiple Gaussian components fitted to the observed line intensity profiles. Density sensitive lines were used to find a relation between the CIV line intensity and the particle density. This relation is used in the mass flux calculations. The investigation indicates a clear net downward mass flux above sunspots.
