The detection of CO emission towards the planetary nebula NGC 3132 is reported. The mass of the neutral nebular material is found to be larger than 0.02 solar mass, and is thus comparable to, or larger than, the total mass of ionized nebular material. The CO emission is concentrated roughly along the minor axis of the optical image of the nebula, suggesting that much of the neutral gas exists in an equatorial torus. The velocity field of the molecular gas shows that expansion of the nebula into the torus is impeded, much higher velocities being encountered near the ends of the major axis.
