A comparison of calculated and measured vertical profiles of N2(+) concentration in the upper atmosphere demonstrates that this concentration can be determined from a simultaneous measurement of 337.1 and 427.8 nm emissions. Attention is also given to the relative contributions of fluorescence and resonance scattering to the volume intensity of the 391.4 nm emission (the results being also valid for 427.8 nm).
