The cepheid period-luminosity relation is the lynchpin of the cosmological distance ladder. However, it has recently been shown, Mochejska et al. (1999) and Stanek & Udalski (1999), that the blending of cepheids with nearby stars in dense stars fields may lead to a systematic over-estimation of the apparent cephid luminosity. Consequently, it is useful to investigate the possibility of the existence of a blending-independent analog to the period-luminosity relation. Based upon OGLE photometry (Udalski et al. 1999) of cephids in the LMC and SMC, we present evidence for the existence of a relation between the period and the flux amplitude, defined as ((a1)2 + (b1)2)1/2, where a1 and b1 are the first two terms of a Fourier expansion fitted to the flux light-curve. The relation is unambiguously seen in both the SMC and LMC. The utility of the period - flux amplitude relation is presently being tested, and preliminary results will be presented at the meeting.
