New spectroscopic observations of MWC 349 in the 2 - 2.5 μm and 4 μm spectral regions are presented. The spectral lines detected indicate the presence of both hot photoionized gas and cooler gas that must be predominantly neutral. The spectral line profiles show clearly that they arise in a rotating medium. A model is discussed in which the neutral gas is contained in a circumstellar disk, and the disk is also the source for the outflow of ionized gas.
