The small scale zonal flows in the outer part of the solar convection zone were recently detected by Kosovichev & Schou (1997) using f-mode frequency splittings. Results from five 72 day time-series (Schou et al. 1998) showed a slight drift of the pattern towards the equator in a manner similar to that seen in the so-called torsional oscillation observed using surface Doppler shift measurements. Here I describe results using several 72 day time-series of MDI Medium-l data. These results show a clear drift of the pattern towards the equator and that the near surface polar rotation rate appears to change with time. This research is supported by the SOI-MDI NASA grant NAG5-3077 at Stanford University.
