Powerful radio galaxies provide the possibility of a varietyof important astrophysical studies. In particular, theanalysis of the UV polarized radiation is important to testthe validity of the unification model of powerful radio-loudAGN and to disentangle the different components (stellar andnon-stellar radiation). Despite the effort in the observationof the UV components in high redshift radio galaxies, theirnature at low redshift has been poorly investigated. Wepropose to do FOS UV spectropolarimetry of threepowerful radio galaxies with z~0.1-0.2. Cycle 6 provides thelast opportunity to obtain this kind of astrophysicalinformation. Our main scientific aims are to test the validityof the Unified Model of powerful radio-loud AGN and to analysethe continuum and emission line polarizations in order tounderstand the origin of the scattered radiation and thenature of the scattering particles. We will also make use ofthe total flux spectra (continuum and lines) in order tomeasure the relative importance of the various radiativecomponents which contribute to the UV emission (stars, scattered radiation, non-thermal unpolarized radiation). Ourobservations will also allow us to compare the spectral andpolarization properties of low and high redshift powerfulradio galaxies in the same UV rest-frame spectral range.
