Understanding of the evolution and formation of galaxies is the most basic subject in galactic astronomy. Although until recently one hardly knows the history of galaxies, observations of distant and faint galaxies have now been rapidly revealing the galaxy evolution up to about ten billion years ago. The author intends to brief the recent results and tries to make a sketch for the history of galaxies.
