In spite of careful selection of very homogeneous objects, both in terms of optical properties and environmental characteristics, we were unable to significantly reduce the large spread in the Lx vs Lb plane. We confirm that optical luminosities are not clear predictors of the X-ray luminosity in early-type galaxies, even when environmental effects have been minimized by choosing a sample of truly isolated objects.
