Globular Clusters: General, Stars: Hr Diagram, Horizontal-Branch, Population Ii
Scientific paper
New CCD Color-Magnitude Diagrams (CMD) for 9 galactic globular clusters are presented. This work is part of a project aimed at giving a firm statistical basis to the interpretation of the horizontal branch (HB) morphology. The CMDs presented in this study show in general more than 100 HB stars and two clusters (NGC 6218 and NGC 6681) disclose a clear evidence for the occurrence of the `second parameter'. The HB morphology indexes for each cluster are derived. The helium abundance, evaluated through the R-method, shows no correlation with the galactocentric distance or with the HB morphology. The RGB bump has been detected for 4 clusters in the sample.
