The effect of solar activity on velocity fluctuations of the earth's diurnal motion and angular (kinetic) momentum of the earth atmosphere is investigated. The FFT method is used to calculate the power spectrum for the variations in the length of day (LOD), atmospheric angular momentum (AAM), and for some indices of solar activity on a 20-200-d time scale. The obtained results argue in favor of the wave hypothesis as the source of the influence of solar activity on the AAM and LOD (e.g., through UV radiation and ozone), rather than the corpuscular one, when the solar wind is assumed to be the main cause.
