The long-term CCD photometric monitoring of the S Dor variable eta Carinae revealed that the neighbouring spectroscopic-binary star CPD-592628 was also a photometric variable. Follow-up photometry during five eclipses was performed from Chile and from South Africa, and a few high-resolution spectra were obtained. This allowed a preliminary analysis of the system. Light curve analysis is outlined and our findings are compared with other results reported in the literature.
