We propose to use the CTIO 0.9-m telescope for an optical search for substellar mass companions to ~20 stars. The stars in this program have been drawn from a database of 59 nearby (d ≲30 pc), young (age ≲150 Myr) stars in the solar neighborhood. Because the program stars are so young, any substellar companions will also be young and therefore much more luminous than their cooler counterparts found around older stars in the field. These observations will have the potential to detect companions down to ~30 M_Jup with orbital distances > 100 AU for stars located at d=20 pc.
