Thermalization models of the cosmic microwave background which are based
on the hypothesis of thermalization by iron whiskers (Hoyle and
Wickramesinghe, 1988; Wickramasinghe et al., 1992) have been reviewed.
These models are found to be generally consistent with recently observed
fluctuations in the intensity of this background.
