Globular clusters in the 2 to 10 Mpc distance bracket are most difficult to recognize because standard detection techniques do not apply in this range. They are too far to be easily resolved and too close for their surface density to dominate that of the local background. However, their near-zero proper motion distinguishes them from objects subject to Galactic rotation. Accordingly, a proper motion study is being conducted on a 1(o) square area centered on M81 and will produce a list of candidate halo clusters. Images obtained on a large CCD at the KPNO 4-m telescope are being compared to deep plates taken at the CFHT in 1980 and with one good quality 1953 POSSI Schmidt plate. The results of this study will be presented at the AAS Meeting 181, and will subsequently be part of a spectroscopic survey.
