SpectroCam-10 is the first instrument built by Cornell for the 200-inch Hale telescope under a cooperative agreement with Caltech. The instrument uses a 128times 128 Si:As BIBIB detector developed by Rockwell International for the SIRTF program. Two gratings and an optical flat mounted on a rotating carousel allow the instrument to function as both a camera with diffraction-limited (0.5 arcsec) spatial resolution, and as a spectrograph with resolving powers of 100 and 2000. The carousel is driven by a SIRTF-prototype cryogenic rotating mechanism developed by Cornell and Ball Aerospace. We will discuss the performance of the detector and cryogenic mechanism, plus present scientific highlights of our first year of operation at Palomar.
